The Allens Arthur Robinson First Year Buddy Program
The UQLS has reformed the mentoring program for 2010.
The program ran through weeks 5 to 8, culminating in a free barbecue outside the Law Library.
Material covered included: tips about how to study efficiently, how to write assignments and how to prepare for exams. For those who would like a copy of this material, it can all be found in the Allens Arthur Robinson First Year Buddy Program Handbook, available for download here.
First Year Mooting Competitions
A moot is essentially a practice court case. Two teams of two (one representing the appellant, the other representing the respondent) take turns speaking in front of a judge to present their side of a case. The legal problems for first-year mooting are based on topics covered in your Torts A and Legal Method tutorials, so participating is a great way to improve your familiarity with the subject matter. All competitors must hold an L Card. Sign-on for the first-year comp has now closed.
HopgoodGanim Lawyers First Year Survival Guide 2010
This gem was handed out to a majority of students at the First Year Welcome at the very beginning of semester.
This guide provides an overview of the larger range of services, support and social events the UQLS has to offer and is available for download here.
Social Sport
Joining one of the UQLS's social sport teams is one of the most enjoyable ways to meet fellow law students. The UQLS is entering teams in a variety of sports in second semester, so keep an eye out for which will interest you. All teams are mixed, and players of all ages, skill levels and coordination are welcome to join in. Plenty more information can be found here.

The Allens Arthur Robinson First Year Dinner was held at A Night In India, 55 High Street Toowong on the 14th March 2010. It was a splendid event this year and boasted record attendance!
