Careers in Environmental Law Event Recap
The recent Careers in Environmental Law event, hosted by the UQLS and orchestrated with the valuable support of Dr. Chris McGrath and Mr. Scott Sellwood provided attendees with insight into the burgeoning area of environment and planning law practise. Dr. Chris McGrath spoke about his experiences in representing environmental groups in some of Queensland and Australia’s landmark environment and planning cases; including the Flying Fox Case, Japanese Whaling Case and the recent Wandoan Coal Mine Case. This proved to be a rare insight into the type and nature of work that barristers undertake before a case is heard in court. Mr. Scott Sellwood recalled his experiences in practising environmental law in South America, which was a real eye-opener! He then spoke about his experiences working in the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) and volunteering opportunities for students. Following the event, supper was served and attendees had the opportunity to speak with the presenters.
The UQLS looks forward to hosting more of these types of events in the future!
