The annual National Administrative Appeals Tribunal Mooting Competition commences on Friday 26 July 2013 with the release of the draw and the first moot problem, and is conducted on a knock-out basis until the final on 8 October. Teams reaching the final will have mooted on at least five separate occassions and dealt with a wide range of problems covering different areas of public law, such as; social welfare law, war veterans’ entitlements, migration law, and civil aviation law, among others. A practice moot before the competition commences will be held in the week before the first round proper (ie 22-26 July). UQ may enter up to three teams with three spots available on each team (two advocates and a solicitor) and the School of Law is aiming to win the title for the third consecutive year. Dr Billings will be mentoring the teams with assistance from previous AAT moot participants and practitioners.

Students are invited to apply for either moot by email to the Director of Mooting, Dr Peter Billings, by Monday 20 May 5pm. Applications received after this time will not be considered. Your covering letter should include your current GPA (in law) and evidence of any experience in mooting and/or public speaking that you may have. Prior mooting experience and/or public speaking is an advantage but not a pre-requisite for selection.

Students who have already represented (or been selected to represent) the School of Law in external mooting competitions in 2013 should not apply.
